Biography

Graduated in Mathematics and professionally involved in the field of Computer Science, Maria Di Razza has a true passion for cinema. In 2007 she attended a course in directing at the Pigrecoemme Film School in Naples and, in the same year, she directed "Ipazia (Hypatia)", a short film about the only woman scientist of ancient times. In 2013, she made the award-winning animated short film,“Forbici (Scissors)", an episode from the participated film "Oggi insieme, domani anche", supervised by Antonietta De Lillo. The short film, which deals with the delicate theme of women's killing, is winner of the Special Mention at Nastri d'Argento 2014. In 2014 she directed the animated short film "Facing Off", a further exploration of feminine world. The short film is shortlisted at Nastri d'Argento 2015. In 2016 she made another work of great international success, "(In) Felix", an animated short film picturing a dystopian journey through the Earth of Fires, selected in over 30 festivals including the Festival International du Film Nancy-Lorraine and the Nastri d'Argento 2017. In 2018 with "Goodbye Marilyn" she pays homage to the diva par excellence, adapting the novel with the same name published by Becco Giallo. The short film has been selected at the prestigious Venice Days / Giornate degli Autori during the 75th Venice Film Festival. Maria also collaborates with Ischia Film Festival, Napoli Film Festival as well as the women's international short film festival A Corto di Donne.

Laureata in matematica e di professione Informatica, Maria Di Razza coltiva da sempre la passione per il cinema. Nel 2007 frequenta un corso di regia presso la scuola di cinema Pigrecoemme di Napoli e nello stesso anno dirige "Ipazia", un cortometraggio sulla figura dell'unica donna scienziata dell'antichità. Nel 2013 realizza il premiatissimo cortometraggio di animazione "Forbici" nell’ambito del progetto di film partecipato della Marechiarofilm "Oggi insieme, domani anche" ideato da Antonietta De Lillo. Il corto, che affronta il delicato tema del femminicidio, vince la menzione speciale ai Nastri d’Argento 2014. Nel 2014 realizza il cortometraggio in animazione "Facing off", una ulteriore esplorazione del mondo femminile. Il cortometraggio è finalista ai Nastri d’Argento 2015. Nel 2016 realizza un altro lavoro di grande successo internazionale, “(In)Felix”, che rappresenta un viaggio distopico attraverso la Terra dei Fuochi e che viene selezionato in oltre 30 festival tra cui il Festival International du Film Nancy-Lorraine oltre che i Nastri d'Argento 2017. Nel 2018 con “Goodbye Marilyn” omaggia la diva per eccellenza, adattando il romanzo omonimo edito da Becco Giallo. Il cortometraggio è stato selezionato alle prestigiose Giornate degli Autori nell’ambito della 75esima Mostra del Cinema di Venezia. Maria collabora inoltre da diversi anni con l’Ischia Film Festival, il Napoli Film Festival e la rassegna internazionale di cortometraggi a regia al femminile A Corto di Donne.
